Spring 2025 Graduation

Everyone here at Sunshine Enterprises is proudly celebrating a milestone moment with the largest graduating class in our organization’s history, as 139 entrepreneurs completed our Community Business Academy (CBA) program this spring. The graduation event showcased the power of grassroots entrepreneurship and community-based support in action, with representation from across Chicago’s neighborhoods and specialty business hubs. Held in a spirit of achievement and unity, the ceremony honored graduates from eight diverse cohorts, including:

From wellness services and artisan crafts to tech ventures and food-based startups, the businesses represented reflect the rich talent and tenacity of Chicago’s rising entrepreneurs. The event featured inspiring remarks from student speakers Lawanda Chambers (LIFE Wellness and Counseling Services) and Rita Lugo (Encanto Taíno), who shared powerful stories of transformation and resilience. Their journeys highlighted how the CBA’s mix of practical training, mentorship, and community support laid the groundwork for their business growth. Keynote speaker Robert McGhee, Senior Vice President at Fifth Third Bank, energized the audience with reflections on economic equity and the vital role of small businesses in strengthening communities. More than 30 community partners were recognized for their ongoing support, including local banks, community development corporations, universities, and entrepreneurship-focused nonprofits. Organizations like Allies for Community Business, South Shore Chamber of Commerce, The Aux, and Wintrust continue to provide mentorship, funding connections, and vital infrastructure to Sunshine graduates. Graduates will continue their journey through our Business Acceleration Services, gaining access to one-on-one coaching, capital readiness support, alumni networking, and more. Many are already preparing to pitch for funding, gain certifications, or expand into new markets. This record-breaking graduation is not just about numbers - it’s about the growing impact of community-rooted entrepreneurship.
