Nourishing Community Through Culinary Wellness

From Passion to Plate

For Kristina Walls’s ChiSoul Cuisine, food is a pathway to healthier living. Built around the idea of culinary wellness, the business focuses on making nutritious food accessible, approachable, and meaningful for the communities it serves. Through partnerships with nonprofits and corporations, ChiSoul Cuisine teaches people how to cook healthier, understand nutrition, and make choices that support the mind, body, and soul.

Kristina’s journey began long before the business itself. A culinary arts graduate with a degree in Nutrition and Wellness, she spent years in the food industry as a restaurant manager. Growing up, she struggled with weight and recognized that the food options available to her weren’t always the healthiest. That experience stayed with her, and as a teenager, she found her way into cooking, and later as a mother, she began intentionally bringing healthier meals into her home, laying the foundation for what would eventually become her business.

In 2020, after being laid off during the pandemic, she decided to put all of her experience together to begin a brand rooted in impact. What started as a small operation—preparing meals and doing drop-offs—quickly evolved. While the business didn’t initially center on nutrition, over time she leaned fully into her passion for wellness, shaping ChiSoul Cuisine into a brand focused on education, empowerment, and long-term health.

That growth has led to a major milestone: the purchase of a food truck. Currently being upgraded, the truck represents a new chapter of bringing healthy, nourishing food directly into neighborhoods and expanding access in a tangible way. It’s beyond convenience, intentionally meeting people where they are and showing that healthy food can be both accessible and enjoyable.

As her business has grown, she sought out community and connection. After participating in FoodLab Chicago, she was encouraged by fellow entrepreneurs to join Sunshine Enterprises. Through the program, she found resources but beyond that, she found a network. “It’s like a family,” she shared, reflecting on the relationships and support that have helped her continue to grow.

Today, as a solopreneur, she’s focused on scaling her impact. With plans to expand her team through the food truck, she’s also creating opportunities for others, bringing in instructors to teach classes, supporting fellow food entrepreneurs, and using her platform to uplift others in the industry. Through every meal, partnership, and new venture, ChiSoul Cuisine is proving that when you invest in your passion, you can nourish not just yourself but an entire community.
